TRAVELLING TAIWAN BY TRAIN

It’s hard to imagine that at a time of cutting edge technology and medical breakthroughs, many travellers still prefer to return to the primitive and take on rail journeys.

The tobacco leaf shaped island of Taiwan, is encircled with a rail line. The island provides an array of train excursions designed to build an unforgettable and memorable holiday for adventurers.

A 15-day ticket allows travellers to stop at seven stations along the way. Visitors pressed for time can select from one of Taiwan’s four Tourist Train journeys that travel to scenic local destinations.

The Kenting Star train excursion departs from the Taipei Railway station, and arrives at the west coast of Fangliao. A shuttle awaits here for the short onward trip to the town of Kenting in Kenting National Park.

Taking less than three hours, the journey on the Southern Link Star is the shortest of the four Tourist Train trips. Departing from Kaohsiung, the country’s second largest city, you will be indulged in the host springs resort of Jhihben on the east coast.

The four-hour ride on the Hualien Tourist Train promises another spectacular journey. The east cost city of Hualien marks the beginning of a memorable excursion to the marble cliffs of Taroko Gorge.

The Hot Spring Princess then continues down the east coast to Jhihben.

Tourist Trains in Taiwan feature cushiony seats and dining cars where hot meals are served, and snack foods and beverages are sold on mobile trolleys.

Coupled with pre-booked accommodation and tours, you can be assured that Tourist Trains is one of the most pleasing ways to see the island.
